Backus Hospital, established in 1893, stands as the primary healthcare source for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are proud to offer essential services, including the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties and exclusive LIFE STAR helicopter services. Our focus is on delivering high-quality healthcare and improving the health of our communities.

The E3 unit features a combined telemetry and Progressive Care Unit with 25 beds, supported by a team of skilled nurses and healthcare professionals. Our unit specializes in complex cases involving stroke, vascular, neurological, and surgery patients. With a commitment to innovative technology and patient-centered care, we create an environment that promotes healing and excellence.

Job Summary

We are looking for compassionate nurses who will use their clinical skills to create meaningful relationships with patients. You will assess and identify patient needs, develop a care plan, implement treatments, and evaluate the care provided.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Nursing program; BSN preferred.
• One (1) year of RN experience or successful completion of the Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program; preferred two (2) years of experience in this clinical area.
• Current unrestricted nursing license in good standing in the State of Connecticut.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
• Must obtain ACLS and PALS certifications within 90 days of hire.
• Pass the dysrhythmia test within 3 months of hire.
• Achieve a score of 80% on the BKAT or complete a critical care course within one (1) year of hire.
• Ability to obtain and maintain department-specific certifications; PCCN or CCRN preferred.

You should be able to read and interpret instructions effectively and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues, medical professionals, and patients. Adaptability to prioritize tasks and thrive in a high-stress environment while ensuring top-notch customer service is essential. Basic computer skills for data entry and retrieval are required.
